Very often we hear questions like is it possible to use HandyWi on phones without WLAN support, for example Nokia 6210 Navigator or Nokia N73? The answer is definite, yes you can use HandyWi on these phones and benefit from using our Landmarks service, you can upload them to our server and watch online here. However, only only connectivity option you have is 3G or EDGE, as WLAN hardware is missing on these devices.  For more information please refer to this FAQ entry.

Gmail on S60 phone

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

We all agree that email is something we use every day, checking mail on your mobile phone while sitting in a cafe sipping your Macchiato, sounds great isn’t it?

Many of us are using Gmail for private or even business mail, Gmail has it’s own mobile mail client, which works quite well, but on Series60 phone you can use internal Messaging client and enjoy many of it’s useful features including IMAP Inbox.

Setting up S60 Messaging client for Gmail is a bit tricky, luckily guys from Mobile Pakistan made an effort to compile complete manual how to actually do it. This video below shows you how to setup your Gmail IMAP Inbox on Series60 phone and fetch email over WLAN using HandyWi.

Before you start, please make sure you enabled IMAP in your Gmail account settings (first step in this manual).

Landing page best practise

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Every time you connect to a WiFi hotspot, HandyWi is trying to load a web page located on
our server. We call it – HandyWi landing page. In most cases this connection is done automatically and will not cost you anything as it is done over WLAN.

Nevertheless, in some cases your WEB browser will be configured to always prompt
(aka. Always ask) for an access points before doing Internet connection. In this case you have to select “HandyWi APN” from the list and not one of the GSM operator specific access points.

To illustrate this use case, i will show a few screenshots. Start HandyWi and search for some hotspots, select your hotspot in the list and hit connect.

You will see a couple of progress indicators on the screen, as the last step WEB browser will be started and prompt you for an access point.

Select HandyWi APN

Make sure you selected “HandyWi APN”, after that HandyWi landing will be loading over WLAN free of charge!
